BASIC TECHNIQUE OF LIGHTING


WHY WE NEED  LIGHTING ?
FOR GETTING AN IMAGE WE NEED LIGHT. IN OUTDOORS, THE SUNLIGHT IS ABUNDANT. IN INDOORS WHAT WE WANT IS A BANK OF ARTIFICIAL LIGHT SOURCES. BUT WHY WE TALK ABOUT LIGHTING, IN A BIG WAY?

TAKE YOUR DRESSING ROOM-ANALYSE THE LIGHTING: VEN IF YOUR DRESSING ROOM IS AMPLY LIT, WE NEED TO HAVE SOME ADDITIONAL LIGHTING OVER THE DRESSING TABLE.THIS IS BECAUSE, IT ENABLES US TO SEE MINUTE DETAILS CLEARLY.

TAKE YOUR READING ROOM – ANALYSE THE LIGHTING: APART FROM THE NORMAL LIGHTING, WHETHER IT IS SWITCHED ON or OFF, WE USE TABLE LAMPS WHICH ARE FOCUSSED ON TO YOUR BOOK.HERE, WE WANT TO CONCENTRATE MORE ON A SUBJECT, THAT IS, YOUR BOOK.

TAKE A CONCERT HALL – ANALYSE THE LIGHTING: ALL CONCERT HALLS ARE DIMLY LIT; TO CREATE THE MOOD & ATMOSPHERE AND ALSO WITH THE OTHER PURPOSE OF HIDING THE FACES OF THE PEOPLE.

So we need lighting for:
1.TO EMPHASIZE CERTAIN OBJECTS OR BRING ABOUT MORE DETAILS ( reveal)
2. TO CONCENTRATE ON SELECTED SUBJECTS
3. TO CONCEAL SOME THINGS WHICH ARE NOT RELEVANT
4. TO HAVE CONSISTANT PICTORIAL EFFECT
5. TO MODEL OR MOULD
6. TO REMOVE SHADOWS, HOT SPOTS PRODUCED BY UNCONTROLLED LIGHTING

TAKE YOUR CAMERA AND MOVE AROUND THE SUBJECT WHICH IS LIT BY A SINGLE SOURCE.
AS YOU MOVE AROUND THE SUBJECT WHICH IS LIT BY A SINGLE SOURCE, MORE CONCENTRATED IN NATURE- WHAT DO YOU SEE?
AT EACH & EVERY PLACE,  THE LIGHTING EFFECT CHANGES OR IT PRODUCES VARIABLE MODELLING ON THE FACE.

FOR THE PURPOSE OF PHOTOGRAPHY, IT IS NOT ONLY THE PLACEMENT OF THE LIGHT MATTERS,
BUT ALSO ITS ANGLE,
WHETHER FROM TOP OR BOTTOM, WHETHER BRIGHT OR DULL, LEFT OR RIGHT OR STRAIGHT,
WHETHER THE LIGHT IS COMING STRAIGHT FROM THE SOURCE OR IS REFLECTED BY THE NEARBY OBJECTS…..
ALL THESE PARAMETERS  DECIDE THE FINAL APPEARANCE OF THE SUBJECT.

ten basic rule of camera


THE BIG RULES OF VIDEO

You shall always use a tripod.

You shall always check you audio levels before record.

You shall not over-use wipes during editing for the sake of vanity, but you shall cut edit with reason and purpose, and only then, keeping the transitions modest.

You shall have thy proper subject on screen at the proper time, the speaker when he speaks, the reaction when reacted, the glance and then the object.

You shall always use the rule of thirds.

You shall not cross the 180 degree axis.

You shall rehearse your edits (and your shots), and give them bountiful pre-roll, or you may recieve the dreaded glitch.

You shall not leave the decks in pause too long.

You shall not linger too long in black, or the viewer may kick his set reproachfully, thinking it has conked out again.
